Control your Image: house with ANY Image: computer using MAX,
the remarkable computer accessory from PIGS Electronics!

Here's how...

MAX connects to ANY computer with an RS232 serial port

¤ Use MAX with a Macintosh, an IBM PC compatible, an Apple II+, etc.
¤ Now you can put that old unused computer to good use - controlling your home!

Send AND RECEIVE X10 commands

¤ Program your computer to respond to any X10 command!
¤ Pressing one button on any X10 controller can control multiple devices. You can even change the devices based on the time of day, the temperature, etc.

10 digital I/O lines, 5 analog to digital (A/D) inputs

¤ Each digital I/O line can be set to an input or an output.
¤ Easily set up MAX to notify the host computer when an input changes - connect switches on your doors and windows to MAX for a customized security system!
¤ Use the A/D inputs to monitor temperature, light level, etc. - your computer can know how hot or cold a room is, if it is a sunny day, or just about anything!

MAX responds to simple ASCII commands

¤ MAX speaks English, just like you. To read digital input #1, send the command "DIG1?" and MAX will respond with "DIG1=0" or "DIG1=1". Simple, isn't it?
¤ Use MAX with any language - Basic, C, Pascal, etc.

Prototype area is included

¤ You can add your own interface circuits right on MAX's circuit board!

What can you do with MAX?

Create a custom security system
Use MAX to monitor your doors and windows
Connect switches on your doors and windows to the digital inputs on MAX. Then program MAX to notify the host computer when one of these switches change. You now have the perimeter of your house constantly monitored. Set the RS232 port to interrupt the computer and it will instantly know if any door or window is opened!
Use any X10 controller as a keypad to control your system
When a button is pressed on an X10 controller, it sends an X10 code on your power lines. MAX detects these codes and sends them to your computer. Your computer can determine which buttons have been pressed on the controller and act on this information. You can assign different button sequences to arm and disarm your system. Each person in your house can use a different sequence of buttons, or everybody can use the same one. You can even temporarily assign a sequence to a neighbor while you are on vacation. When you come back, program your computer to ignore these codes. This system is limited only by your imagination!
Create a sophisticated home control system
Control all 256 X10 addresses
MAX can transmit and receive house codes A-P and unit codes 1-16, which means you can control ANY X10 device! MAX also handles all special codes such as Dim, Bright, All Units Off, All Lights On, etc.
Control your home using real world inputs!
Connect a simple photocell circuit to one of the A/D inputs, and now your computer knows whether it is a sunny or cloudy day! Another photocell circuit can tell the computer if a light is on in a room. A thermistor circuit lets your computer know a room's temperature. You are not limited to just digital I/O anymore! You can even perform different actions based on the time of day! Schematics for sample circuits are included with MAX.
Log your home's activity
Set up your software to monitor all activity and log it to disk. Your software can even learn your daily or weekly activity and modify it's actions based on this activity.
Trigger multiple events by pushing 1 button (software macros)
Press 1 button on an X10 controller when you wake up in the morning, and your computer can detect this and turn on several lights, a radio, a coffee maker, or anything you want! Another button pressed can signal your arrival home from work. A third button be pressed at bed time to turn off certain devices and have your computer arm the security system. The possibilities are truly limitless.
Environmental control for disabled people
Incorporate some of the ideas listed above to develop an environmental control system for disabled individuals.

You can do all of this ... plus much more!

MAX is available in kit form for only $89.99,
or completely assembled and tested for $129.99.
Both versions include X10 interface, power supply, cables, and full documentation.
The kit version comes with all components, case, PC board, programmed microcontroller chip, and complete assembly instructions.
The assembled version is installed in the case and is fully tested.

We also have a bare-bones kit version for $37.99.
This version is ideal for the person with a fairly well-stocked parts box. It consists of the MAX PC board, programmed microcontroller chip, and full documentation. You would need to supply the other parts - resistors, capacitors, power supply, etc. See the assembly instructions for a complete parts list.

The standard cable supplied with MAX connects to an IBM PC with a male DB9 connector. If you are connecting MAX to something different, you may need one of the following:
Connecting MAX to: You need:
Macintosh Male DB9 to female DB25 adapter
and
Cable - male 8 pin mini-din to male DB25
IBM PC with male DB25 Male DB9 to female DB25 adapter
Terminal Male DB9 to female DB25 adapter
and
Gender changer - male DB9 to male DB9
If you prefer, you can also make your own cables using
male 8 pin mini-din and male DB9 solder connectors.

Now you can experience the comfort and convenience of
total home control!
